Honoring Gavin

If any of you are interested my cousin Bethany sent this email out on how they are going to honor sweet baby Gavin who passed away a year ago tomorrow. They would love the support. Also, if you are not already registered to be an organ donor and would like to become one PLEASE sign up. It can save lives! Thanks guys!!!

There's been a CHANGE in plans...we went to buy flowers today and apparently Fall flowers won't be ready for another 1-2 weeks. There was pretty much nothing to choose from. SOOOOO, after much thought we've decided to just combine the two events into one.... TOMORROW is cancelled, and we'll plant flowers, eat cupcakes, collect toys, etc all on Gavin's birthday instead, in two weeks: Tuesday, Oct 6.
SORRY for the last minute change, but I think this will work out much better anyway. It was getting a little stressful planning two parties. :P We hope to see you all in two weeks!!! :)
Love,
The Spragues

Honoring Gavin + his 2nd Birthday

6:00pm-7:00pm "come and go"

Gavin's 2nd Birthday
Tuesday, October 6th
6:00pm-7:00pm "come and go"
We are going to have a birthday party and toy drive for Gavin's 2nd Birthday. Everyone is invited to stop by our house for a birthday cupcake and to drop off an unwrapped toy to be donated to Banner Desert Children's Hospital. They use these toys to give to children during their stay (which is SO appreciated- its so hard keeping kids entertained and happy in those little rooms 24/7, especially when you are there for a week or two!). They also use them for
Andrea's Closet
, a program started by another AZ family who's little girl passed away of cancer. They have a closet full of toys where the kids get to pick a toy to take home on their last day.

We are also going to be donating
a wagon
to the children's ward in memory of Gavin (he loved those wagons SO much!), if you'd rather donate a few dollars towards that. I am pretty excited about the wagon...since it has a canopy on the top, the kids will be able to go outside! (I remember always wanting to walk around outside with Gavin, but we never made it past the courtyard because the sun was just too bright and in his eyes). The wagon will cost $145.00, including tax. His paypal account is still open, so donations can be sent online to info@giftforgavin.org. (Any extra money will go towards purchasing more toys.)

family time

Since I haven't posted in a while I thought I'd just post some cute family pictures. We have had a great end of summer. Bret is back at school and work and Ayla and I are still having fun at home... our next big adventure.... (after the big transition to a big girl bed) Potty Training.... She went once yesterday... we will see how it goes :)

On Saturday Bret and I took Ayla to the visitor's center. She loves the temple, it is so cute.

Notice the pavers that we are standing on. Bret made them with his company Copperstate Concrete. They look really nice. They have done a lot of work on concrete at the temple so check it out the next time you are there (like the steps up to the temple and the patio like things outside of the baptistry.

In the beginning of August we got to take a trip over to California to see Kim and Mike and their boys. We had so much fun staying with them and going to the beach. We can't wait to plan our next trip to see them.

Kimi was kind enough to take a few pictures of us. They turned out pretty cute :)

The Forth of July parade

We went to our ward's 4th of July Parade on Saturday morning. Ayla was a bit crabby being woken up before she would have liked but she was a good sport anyways. Bret pulled her in her decorate barbie jeep. We were a bit slower than the bikes but we had a great time anyways. After the parade we had a breakfast. It was really fun!

Happy Birthday Ayla

Ayla turned two! I can't believe I have a two year old! She had a very fun birthday! First, Bret and I woke her up with a singing princess balloon. Then she opened her cowboys boots and new outfit from mom and dad. Then, we went to breakfast with Bret's whole family.

She thought she was cool stuff opening all of her presents. Bridget gave her a red cowboy hat and as you can tell from her expression she LOVED it!
As soon as she opened it she put it on and had to "giddy-up" all around the table. She was content with not opening any more presents but we convinced her to continue.
After she finished opening the presents she convinced Marcie to take a photo shoot of her. She went and posed in front of all different things. I don't have the pictures so hopefully Marcie will post them. It was adorable! After that we went swimming out at Sheleen's house. We had a lot of fun. That night we went to Macaroni Grill and ate. Ayla must have been really hungry because she ate one whole loaf of bread!

They gave her a birthday cake and candle and sang to her. She wasn't too sure about the singing but she LOVED blowing out the candle and she said "I did it!" and kept the candle all night long. She also enjoyed eating the cake. After dinner she got to go and spend the night with Marcie and Holly! She had a wonderful birthday!

NEWS FLASH

Ayla's hair can finally fit into piggy tails! We thought this day would never come... now we just have to get her to keep them in. She looks so cute and grown up in them I don't even know what to do!

Splash pad fun

On Monday I watched Zane and Nate while Kimi and Mike were in California looking for an apartment (sad day they are moving... let's not talk about it because it makes me sad). My friend Jamie invited us to come play at the splash pad with her kids. The kids had a fun time.Zane thought it was a little cold so he watched for some the time.
Nate loved crawling around like a bear and getting wet. He also enjoyed finding everything he could to put in his mouth and going and meeting the people next to us.

It was a fun day in the water!

Stake Softball Champions

The Harris Heat softball team won the stake championship on Saturday June 6th! They were awesome team and we were awesome fans. It was a lot of fun and we can't wait for next year!

At the team party afterward Bret won MVP for the season. He got a little trophy and we are displaying it proudly in our house. Good job Bret!

Ayla was daddy biggest fan and would yell over and over again "yeay daddy, yeay daddy, yeay daddy". She even ran out onto the field during the championship game because she wanted to go see her daddy.

Lift Where You Stand 2009 Gilbert Stapley Stake TREK!!!!

Bret and I had the awesome opportunity to go on our stake's trek as a Ma and Pa. We had an amazing experience and as you will see from the pictures loved our family very much. Thanks to Gina, Marcie, and Holly for watching Ayla while we were gone. Bear with me on the pictures I couldn't leave very many out because everything was just so important to us :)

This is our family right after we picked them. Our stake had the girls line up in one line and the boys in another. The Mas and Pas than went down the rows and the Mas picked the boys using the spirit as our guide, and the Pas picked the girls. I was really nervous about this but it turned out to be a really neat thing.
This was us right before we started out on our nine mile walk that night...

Us stopped at "Florence"
Ma and Pa Burnham (we're so cute!)
We walked that first night until one or two in the morning. It was really hard. It was dark and really cold and I thought I wasn't going to make it. Thankfully Bret kept pulling me along and we finally made it to camp.

The next morning we made breakfast, took down camp, and headed out again...
The first day we were handcart number three in the train. The second day we reversed the numbers and we were the third handcart from the back. What a view we had. There were 21 handcarts in all.

Our wonderful family. On this little stretch of the way us young woman (I count myself as one still) lead the boys in singing some silly camp songs. We had a really good time. The boys probably thought we were crazy and definitely laughed at the goings on at girls camp. Pa didn't so much like the sippin cider song and our favorite song was "I said a BOOM CHICA BOOM". We sang it in many styles and even made up one for trek that went like this: "I said a pull chica pull (repeat) I said a pull chica pull (repeat) I said a pull, push your handcart, push your handcart up the hill, all right, oh yeah". We all agreed that singing made pushing more fun.

This was the arrangement of the girls right before the woman's pull.

The woman's pull was an awesome experience. First Pa pulled the young men off the handcart (we were all on silence the whole time). Then the young men and Pas were called off to serve int he Mormon Battalion. The young women had a devotional in which Mary Fielding Smith talked to us about here story. Our stake young women's President than told us that what we would do would be hard and did we want to keep going. All the young women said YES! So we pushed on. We pulled hard and put everything we had into getting up the hill. It was steep and we shed many tears. When we got half way up the hill the boys could help us by putting rocks behind the wheels so it wouldn't roll back, by moving, rocks, by getting water, or anything else they could think of except pulling or pushing the cart. Finally we made it up the hill and the boys took over. We then had a little scare with one of the girls and her asthma. But, all of us rallied around her and she got a priesthood blessing, and inhaler, and lots of love from all of us and she was able to continue and walk the rest of the way to Zion. It was a really neat day. That night we set up camp in Zion and made dinner and cobbler. Finally way too late into the night we made it to bed.

The next day we got to participate in Pioneer games and activities. We were a little late because of our ever present problem with taking forever to make food (I don't know why but we could never get water to boil or oh a number of things but we did it together and with happy faces so it didn't matter how long it took right :) ) Anyway, our first activity we did was the gunny sack race.

Then, we did the tug of war. We decided to do boys vs. girls with Pa helping the girls and Ma helping the boys. The boys claimed that Pa could win by just sitting on the rope so it wasn't a fair war. Nevertheless we tried and low and behold the girls and Pa won.

The girls gloating over their strength...
The boys hanging their heads in shame :(
After that, our home teacher Mike showed us all how to rope.

Ciera roping like a pro. Then we did some potato carving and hatchet and knife throwing.
Tashaila made a wolf on a mountain
Donovan made a castle
Jonathan made a gnome
the boys throwing

The girls showing their skills

Pa showing us all up
Monica and the turtle she carved
K.C. and the cow bones he found and wore around.... don't ask haha
That day during our last activity a huge rain storm came. We were not prepared for the rain but at least we were able to keep our stuff dry if not ourselves. We all huddled behind a tarp soaking wet and FREEZING during the rain. We said a family prayer where Pa thanked Heavenly Father for the rain and then we sang hymns until the rain let up. Ma then made everyone get into dry clothing and we prepared our camp for more rain. Arianna and Pa did some cheerleading moves to get the tarp up.
This was the glorious rainbow that came after the rain letting us know that the Lord will never forget us. Although the rain was a HUGE adversity we all agreed that it turned out to be a huge blessing. Throughout the trip each one of us saw tender mercy after tender mercy from the Lord. We all gained a stronger testimony because of the adversitities we faced.
Our shelter. One of the sleeping bags got really soaked in the rain and we did not get it dry. So... Pa and I offered our sleeping bag to Jonathan and squeezed into one. To say we grew closer on the trek is an understatment. haha. It was an interesting night but we didn't get cold!
Saturday morning we packed up and headed for home. The stake cooked us a yummy breakfast and we pulled our handcart out, took it apart and headed home on the bus.
Christian, Cooper, Jonathan and Arianna getting us water from the pump.
Lisette, Arianna, and Me
Trek was amazing and we love our kids SOOO much! Thanks guys!
